Six Items to Add to Your Wardrobe to Elevate Your Casual Style

As we look at the trends for this 2023 the one style trend that is becoming a favorite is elevated casual. That has always been a go-to for me.Here are six items to add to your wardrobe to elevate your casual style.

Classic Sneakers

I know I probably sound like a broken record but Jordan 1’s are the new “it-girl” sneaker of choice. I usually go for the mid version but when I came across this pair of  low-top sneakers, I immediately added them to my shopping bag. An “elevated” version of the classic low-tops this pair has a slight platform that makes it easy to wear with longer trousers and wide leg jeans. It’s casual enough to wear to run errands and the platform makes it easier to wear with your longer length bottoms.

Oversized Hobo Bag

This trend started late last year after a long love affair with mini and micro bags. Designers showcased some larger than life variations of this bag but the one that I have fallen in love with is from MAM. This innovative and environmentally-friendly brand designed the perfect oversized hobo using recycled leather. It can be worn as a shoulder bag or a crossbody and the design makes it easy to carry a lot without looking bulky.

Wide Leg Denim

My skinny jeans have not been worn in over a year. It’s not that I don’t like them, but right now is not the time. It all started with straight leg jeans for me around this time last year and by the end of the year it was all trouser and wide leg. If you’ve been following the blog you already know that two of my best purchases of last year were my Citizens of Humanity Horseshoe Jeans and Good American Good Icon Jeans.

This year it appears Citizens of Humanity have done it again with their newest fit—the Ayla Baggy Cuffed jean. The relaxed fit makes it so easy to wear and the cuffed leg (which can also be rolled down for a full-length look) is perfect. Cuffed or notthey can be worn with pretty much anything from heels to boots and even low top sneakers. This is bound to be one of my most-worn denim of the year.

Next, we have cargo denim jeans. We all saw and fell in love with the viral pair of acid wash denim cargo jeans from the Attico. But since most of us might not feel comfortable spending an upwards of $1K on a single pair of pants, I was able to find a dupe that will satisfy your cool girl vibe. For this silhouette, I prefer to wear them with a structured boot or heels (which can still be casual).

Low Heel Ankle Boot

One of my favorite ways to wear the denim mentioned above is with low heel booties. My favorite is from J.Crew (sold out). The heel is under 2 inches but it’s the shape of the heel that really makes this bootie stand out. I don’t know how else to explain it other than it’s kind of a low, slim banana heel (my gen-x/elder millennials know what I’m talking about). In any case it’s probably the most comfortable dressy but not overly dressy boot you can own right now. It will go with just about anything whether it be midi-skirts, maxi skirts, trousers, dresses, denim. At this point it’s my go-to heels.

Delicate Statement Jewelry

I know it sounds contradictory, but hear me out. When I say delicate statement jewelry what I mean is that it’s a piece that while delicate also has an element that catches the eye. Again if you’ve been following the blog for a while you already know how I feel about Baublebar.
