Yearly Roundup: My Top Ten Fashion Purchases of 2022

Navy blue glazed leather oversized hobo bag

Another year has come to a close and it’s time take a look back and see what purchases I’ve made that were totally worth it. Taking a look back, this was a good mix of accessories and clothing both offering comfort and style to my existing wardrobe. It’s no surprise to me that most of my best purchases were to be worn during the the cooler months since that is when you can really showcase your style and accessories, especially bags were key in completing a look. Next was footwear and while most were getting back into wearing sky high heels, I erred on comfort without sacrificing style.

Footwear

Air Jordan 1 Mid – Last year I may have been all about my New Balance 327s but this year it was all about the Air Jordan 1 Mid. I fell in love with this style last year when I bought my nephew a pair for Christmas. They seem to elevate your sporty casual look and can easily be paired with luxury pieces without seeming out of place. I especially love how these pair with straight leg jeans. They are extremely comfortable and I love wearing them year-round. I’m now on my fourth pair and I’m starting to think that maybe I have an addiction.

Angela B. Scott Ms. Jane Oxford – It wasn’t until the last quarter of the year that I occasionally found myself going into the office. Most times I take an Uber to work and the bus back and although I love my heels they just don’t seem practical for the regular work day. I love a good loafer or oxford. Last year I basically lived in my Vince  Zina Platform oxfords. The removable leather kiltie with soft gold studs and the ribbon laces gave this traditionally masculine shape a feminine flair and getting it in navy rather than black a subtle twist.

Handbags

Polo ID Shoulder Bag – If you’ve been on Instagram since the fall no doubt you saw this bag being worn by some of our favorite influencers. I have fallen in love with this bag ever since I first saw this design. Full disclosure – I do work for the brand. This bag sold out so quickly and with good reason. It’s roomy without being bulky and so versatile. I’ve worn it to the office, out to dinner and even to run errands. The saddle silhouette keeps it close to the body for a seamless look.

Brandon Blackwood Sylvia Bag – While mini and micro bags are still having their moment, nothing beats a good oversized hobo. This oversized bag is another great work bag. It comfortable carries a 13-inch laptop, a notebook, your bento lunch box, and a pair of shoes. It also is perfect for travel. It holds so much while being stylish at the same time. The glazed leather can take a beating and still look so good.

Coach Ombre Pillow Tabby – This is my go-to going out bag. I love it because it works year round. The soft ombre compliments so many color combos regardless of the season and is large enough to carry all of your essentials while being small and be a statement piece.

Outerwear

Karen Millen Leather Trench – Hands down the best leather trench coat I’ve ever seen. Buttery leather with burnished hardware and expert tailoring and perfect for layering. I chose the pale blue option because it goes with so much. I’ve worn it with skirts, leggings, denim and it always works. It will definitely elevate even your most basic of outfits. Don’t think you can’t wear this during the colder months. Just layer your favorite cashmere pieces for a luxe winter look.

Veronica Beard Larkin Puffer Jacket – I like to refer to this as my office puffer coat, but in actuality you can wear this just about anywhere. The blazer detail is what sets this jacket apart. It’s office wear with an edge and if you own any dickeys from the brand you can add that to this puffer as well for extra warmth.

Urban Revivo Faux Shearling Jacket – I first saw this jacket while watching one of Karen Brit Chick’s YouTube videos. I loved it so much, I paused the video and immediately purchased it. The quality of this faux shearling is top tier and the slightly cropped silhouette is perfect. Definitely versatile it can be dressed down with jeans or dressed up with a midi skirt and tall boots.

Denim

Citizens of Humanity Horseshoe Jeans – Barrel leg jeans among the biggest denim trends of the year but no brand really nailed it the way that Citizens of Humanity did. The exaggerated curved wide leg with a cropped length really gave this jean character. Mid-weight denim that can be worn year round and could be worn with heels, flats, sneakers and boots. I loved this silhouette so much that I had to get it in two washes.

Good American Icon Jeans – If you’ve been following the blog for a while you probably already know about my love for Good American jeans. This year the the denim trends were moving away from skinny fits and embracing looser fits. This is where the Good Icon jean comes in. A true straight cut that’s high-rise and fitted at the waist and hip with a slightly looser fit through the thigh. The longer inseam elongates the legs make it perfect for heels. I dub this the date night jean. I love the fit so much I have it in four washes.
