It’s that time of year again—starting this Friday here are the six black-owned brands to shop during the Sephora VIBevent. Depending on your tier level you can score up to 20% off all of your favorite brands and while you’re at it, why don’t you try some new ones. Here are my picks that I am sure you’re going to love.
Makeup
LYS Beauty Triple Fix Serum Foundation—If you love Pat McGrath but don’t want to spend the coin, then this foundation is basically a dupe. It’s a lightweight light to medium coverage foundation that is skin perfecting. If you have dry to combination skin, you are going to love the finish. I was surprised to see how long-wearing this formula is, seeing that I wore this during the warmer months. When combined with a setting powder and a setting spray it will last for a full day.
Danessa Myricks Lightwork Volume I & Volume II—Like most people I thought the days of wearing highlighter was over. That is until I discovered Danessa Myricks Lightwork Volume II palette. I don’t know what type of sorcery she uses in her formulas to make powder highlighter melt into the skin like liquid but I’m here for it. Depending on your skin tone you can opt for Volume I for fair to light-medium skin tones or Volume II for medium to deep skin tones. None of the shades leave a cast and give an ethereal glow. I’ve used some shades as eyeshadow toppers and they have been amazing. 10 out of 10 recommend.
Skincare
Hyperskin Hyper Even Brightening Dark Spot Vitamin C Serum—If you only pick up one skincare product during the event I would have to recommend the Hyperskin Hyper Even Brightening Dark Spot Vitamin C Serum. Formulated with Kojic Acid, Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid it exfoliates, brightens and helps retain moisture—the trifecta.
Bodycare
Topicals Faded Body Spray—The treatment we love for our face is now formulated for the rest of your body in a convenient spray. This body spray gently reduces the look of dark marks with tranexamic acid and niacinamide. It’s recommend that you use 1-2 times a week and work your way up to daily use. The formula absorbs quickly into the skin and leaves no residue.
54 Thrones African Beauty Butter Mini Gift Set—One of the newest brands to be added to Sephora’s lineup is 54 Thrones. This body butter set is a great way try out different scents before you decide which one is your favorite. I love using these as hand creams because of the convenient size. The scents are divine and at this point, I’m going to have to stock up.
Haircare
Bread Beauty Supply Wash-Day Essentials Kit for Curly & Textured Hair—When it comes to hair, this is definitely on top of my list of black-owned brands to shop.Wash day has never been so good. Ever since I tried this set, I have not turned back. This set contains shampoo, deep conditioner, a hair oil and a very cute satin scrunchie. What I especially love about this set is that there’s more conditioner than shampoo which is what we all wish more brands would do.
How many times have you gone through an entire bottle of conditioner and still have more than half a bottle of shampoo? The shampoo is sulfate-free and gently cleanses your hair without stripping it of moisture. The deep conditioner is rich and formulated to provide – Gives slip and softness to your strands, detangles and fights dryness leaving you with repaired, defined, and moisturized curls. This is a curly/coily tressed queens dreams.
Bread Beauty Supply Mud-Mask: Hair & Scalp Detoxifying Pre-Wash Clay Treatment – This was actually the first product that I tried from the brand. I’ve always been a fan of pre-poo products and this one did not disappoint. If you are a protective style wearer than this is the product for you. It combats itchy scalp while detoxifying your scalp and strands. Usually when I’m using this I put on a plastic cap and sit under a hair steamer to make sure it penetrates the hair shaft and it improves the feel of my strands. I wash it out using the Wash-Day Essentials kit and I’m ready for my next style.
