2019 Faves: Hair

So it’s the final day of 2019 and as my last post of the year I am sharing my hair faves. Just so you get a sense of why these are my faves, please note that I wear a protective style (lace wig) 90% of the time and this is what I have found that works best with that. You’ll also note that many of the products that made the list the year were from IGK. I was actually surprised that I enjoyed so many  of their products.

IGK Smoke & Mirrors Conditioning Cleansing Oil – This is not a new product, but I just started using it this year. I really like the way that it made the hair feel. It definitely removed product buildup but did not strip the hair. It’s also not a heavy cleansing conditioner. It left the hair tangle-free with a soft scent. You also don’t need a lot to really cleanse the hair which is great.

Honorable mention: Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Shampoo

IGK Antisocial Overnight Bond-Building Dry Hair Mask – When this launched, I didn’t know what to think about it but because I received a coupon from IGK, I decided to try it. This is a dry overnight conditioner that you don’t wash out in the morning. You apply it on dry hair and by the next morning your hair is instantly restored. I know it seemed a little strange at first. Sometimes the ends of my wig can look a little dry. What I do with this product is lightly mist it all over the hair and put it in a loose bun and wear a satin cap. When I took my hair down the next morning, I was surprised at just how soft it felt. When I brushed it with my dual bristle brush there were no tangles and it gave the hair a beautiful shine. I didn’t even have to use any tools to restyle my hair.

Honorable Mention:  Verb Ghost Dry Oil

Drybar Jumpstart Quick Dry Blowout Serum – The only thing thing I hate about washing my wigs is blow drying them. I know we could always air dry them, but if you are a lace wig wearer you now that takes hours, like basically you have to wait overnight for the hair and cap to dry completely. Also, if you want a really sleek look, you do have to blow dry the hair before flat ironing. This product is really great at cutting down the blow dry time and it leaves the hair silky and smooth while providing heat protection. Apply on damp hair from roots to ends. I prefer using dual bristle paddle brush when using this product for a sleek look.

Honorable Mention: IGK Good Behavior

Amika Polished PerfectionStraightening Brush – I didn’t have high hopes for this. I bought this because I got 20% off during the Sephora VIB sale. This is a great alternative to a flat iron, if you want sleek hair but want a little more volume. I found it easy to use and gentler on the hair. I also find myself using it for quick touch-ups in between washes to maintain my style

IGK 1-800-HOLD-ME – Not even going to lie. I bought this for the name. I swear I have to meet IGK’s copywriter because the names that they come up with for their products are amazing. So the one thing I don’t like is crunchy holding sprays. Up until now, holding spray has never been my thing. It’s flaky, drys out the hair, leaves buildup – it’s always been a hard no for me. And then came this one. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a hairspray. It provides touchable hold with no crunch, does not flake or leave buildup and provides shine. I use this when I want to pull my wig into a high ponytail and don’t want those baby hairs at the back all over the place. I really like it and would highly recommend it for natural or protective styles.

And now that’s a wrap folks. It’s been a great year sharing my thoughts on beauty, fashion and food with you this year and can’t wait to do it again in 2020. Have a safe and happy new year!
