The Fall Edit: Skincare

Fall is officially here. For me, not only do I switch out my wardrobe but I also switch out my skincare products. I can’t speak for everyone but when the season changes, so does my skin. My skin type is combo-oily but sometimes when it gets extremely cold here in NYC or when there is a lot of wind (I work very close to the river and the wind can be very brutal) my skin needs extra hydration and soothing ingredients so that my skin is at its best during the colder months. Below are my current go-to skincare products—some old faves and some newbie and how I am incorporating them into my skincare routine. I might switch out a couple of these throughout the season for new releases that are formulated for my skin type  (I mean, I have to try new stuff so I can share those with you).

Cleanse

Pixi Beauty Collagen In-Shower Steam Facial

I’ve quietly been obsessed with this as my morning cleanser. I especially love using this in the morning while in the shower (of course). It leaves my skin feeling soft and plump and not stripped of the nourishing nighttime skin care routine.

Urban SkinRx Even Tone Cleansing Bar — This is my holy grail nighttime cleanser. I was introduced to this product by the Face Flawless team a couple of years ago and I still find myself reaching for this cleanser almost every night. Right now I am using the Even Tone Cleansing Bar which aids with fading dark marks and even out skin tone. I have used all three cleansing bars during the cooler months this is my favorite. After using this my skin does not feel stripped. What’s great about this is that it can also be used as a mask and I do love a multi-use product.

Tone

Sweet Chef Ginger Kombucha Facial Mist  — Every morning and evening I use a facial mist after cleansing. This one has become my favorite. It contains vitamin D which is another vitamin that helps with anti-aging and this also gives my skin the extra hydration it needs to maximize the efficacy of the rest of my skincare routine.

Treat

Eighteen B Firm & Replenish Serum — I was first introduced to this new product through Felicia Walker Benson of This That Beauty and Face Flawless Skin. I was first intrigued by the science behind their products of being able to harness a non-hydrolyzed silk protein to create a barrier that locks in hydration and firms the skin. I like to use this as my last serum of my nighttime routine before my moisturizer.

Summer Fridays CC Me Serum — I am really enjoying using this serum. As recommended I use this serum before my daytime moisturizer. I love using this after the Summer Fridays R + R mask for a radiant. This serum contains two forms of Vitamin C that target dark spots and provide antioxidant protection.

Peach & Lily Glass Skin Refining Serum — This serum has been out for a while, but it is new to me. I am really loving the glass skin trend and when I added this to my skincare routine I did notice that it gave me a dewy (not greasy) appearance to my combo-oily skin, which was a pleasant surprise as most people with my skin type tend to stay clear of this type of a product for fear that their sebum production would increase. I love using this on days when I am wearing no makeup right before applying my SPF moisturizer. When I do use this under my matte to natural finish foundations it lays beautifully and does not interfere with the wear time of my makeup.

Sunday Riley A+ High Dose Retinol Serum — The cooler months are when I step up my nighttime skincare routine with a retinol. I received this serum in one of my Allure Beauty Boxes in the spring of this year and with the accumulation of so many Sephora VIB points I was able to get seven deluxe samples which adds up to a full size product. I’ve just started using this product three times a week, so I will see how I feel about this in about a month. I will say that I haven’t had any dry patches or reactions to this serum as sometimes happens with retinol treatments, so so far so good.

Moisturize & Protect

Shiseido White Lucent Day Emulsion Broad Spectrum SPF 23 — This is a moisturizer for the #glowgetter. It provides sun protection and a healthy glow that wears well as the last step in your skincare routine or under makeup. We all know that Shiseido is one of the leaders when it comes to skincare and with their most recent launch for this line, this moisturizer does not disappoint. Alone it gives a natural, luminous glow to the skin and works with all skin types. There is also an sufficient amount of SPF that you can wear since most of us are indoors for most of the day during these cooler months.

Summer Fridays Jet Lag Mask — Lately, I’ve been reaching for this mask almost nightly as my nighttime moisturizer. After my nighttime treatment and serums, this mask applies beautifully and absorbs so well into the skin and provides so much hydration that I absolutely love it. In the morning, my skin feels so nourished and smooth. I’ve been talking about this moisturizer since it launched and I have to have at least two tubes of this at all times. I love that they came out with smaller sizes at an affordable price point that is also great for travel.

These nine products have really been keeping my skin hydrated and clear so I plan to use them for the fall and through the winter months. Sure, I may switch out one or two because that’s just how I roll. Do you switch your skincare routine as the seasons change? What are you loving right now. Drop a comment below.
