I Went to the Grand Opening of Ulta on the UES and All I Got Was This Eye Set!

About a month or so ago, I made my first trip to Ulta here in the Bronx. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so accustomed to going to Sephora for a majority of my beauty needs, I didn’t fully appreciate all that Ulta had to offer. I kind of wanted to write them off, but I when the Ulta on the UES opened I decided to give them another shop. By that time I was browsing online and came across a mascara that claimed to put to shame pretty much every other mascara on the market. I continued to read the article I learned that this mascara was $5! First of all, it’s cheaper than most drugstore mascaras. Secondly, this mascara claimed to give you false lash effect without the false lashes. Sounds familiar, right? Isn’t that what every mascara these days claim to do?

Okay, I won’t tease you about this anymore. The brand is essence. They have a ton of mascaras all selling for $5 but the star is the Lash Princess False Lash Mascara. I noticed the difference with just two coats. I do recommend curling your eyelashes before applying.

Now I usually use about four coats of mascara and I always curl my lashes and I recommend curling to really see the effects. Mind you while my lashes are not terribly short (they’re smedium) what this mascara did was separate and elongate my lashes. For those of us who use multiple coats of mascara to get that doe-eyed, fully fanned out look, its important to note that the formula can be a bit heavy so 3 coats is enough. In a way it reminds me of the blinc Amplified mascara in that it kind of creates tubes around your eyelashes making them longer and fuller. The cone shaped brush really gets those inner corner and bottom lashes. Removal is rather easy  with a little warm water and a gentle cleanser that is safe to use around the eye (I recommend Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser) it will wash right off.

The set that I purchased came with a liquid eyeliner and a waterproof eyeliner marker. The entire set was $8.99. Both eyeliners are great especially for the price and in my book they rival NYX liquid liners at a fraction of the price. It is for that reason that I will be going to Ultra quite regularly although my heart still belongs to Sephora (which ironically is on the same block as the Ulta on the UES). I also really like the layout of the UES Ulta more than the one in the Bronx, but that could totally be because I’m a Manhattan girl through and through. The set is an Ulta exclusive, or you can purchase it online here.
