Well now, how long has it been since I’ve done an About Face post? It’s been too long. With Summer (and my birthday) right around the corner it is time to select the foundations that I will be wearing this season. I’ve had these two foundations for a while, but haven’t really worn them as much as I would like. Now you know when it comes to foundation I am like the matte look queen. Kat Von D has been my favorite for quite some time, but this year I think I want to go with a more natural finish. Besides, as the temperatures climb we all crave that healthy glow. I found that with the two foundations from Marc Jacobs that glow became easy to achieve.
The first foundation that I absolutely fell in love with was the Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation. It’s probably going to be my go-to foundation during the day. For starters, it’s oil-free and that is always good for me. Next it is a gel formula. There aren’t that many gel formulas that provide full coverage but this formula does. When I put it on there was a cooling effect that I really did not expect. It felt like my skin was still able to breathe while providing full but very natural coverage. Another great thing about this formula is that you need very little product as it spreads evenly over your skin. I will say that using a tool like a beautyblender® really works with this foundation. What’s even better about this formula is that it last almost all day. On days were the temperature reached above 80 degrees I had to blot about twice over the course of an 8 hour day which is pretty good if you ask me.
The next foundation that is the Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate. This is what you wear for a night out. The full coverage that you get from this foundation is unmatched in my opinion. It’s a serum so it is heavily concentrated and best applied with your fingers so that you can blend it right into your skin. For this particular formula I would recommend using a smoothing primer before applying to achieve a flawless look. I was surprised that I did not need any concealer after applying this, however I strongly suggest using a primer because after some time it can settle into your fine lines – but the coverage is FLAWLESS. This is a formula that you have to really set in order to keep it in place but once it’s set – it is SET! While you could splurge and get the Marc Jacobs Perfection Powder I actually used and recommend using the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder. There’s something about a loose setting powder that just works better for me, but feel free to use whatever setting powder you feel most comfortable with.
On a different note, I was rather impressed with the shade range for the Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate. While I use the darkest shade in both formulas (mostly because I’m darker in the summer) they offer 22 shades and 8 of those shades are perfect for us brown gals and they cover the undertones pretty well. The shade range for the Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation is smaller with an offering of 16 shades and only 3 for those shades are matches for those of us with deep skin tones. Luckily for me, my shade Cocoa Deep is available in both formulas, however for those who are lighter there might be an issue.
On a scale of 1-10 I would give Genius Gel Super–Charged Oil–Free Foundation a score of 9 and the Re(marc)able Full Cover Foundation Concentrate a score of 8. Well with just a couple of weeks before Summer is officially here what foundations are you going to be using. Leave a comment below.
Until next time, always remember to SEE. TOUCH. TASTE.
