Listen, when Kylie Jenner’s Lip Kit came out a few months ago, I didn’t have high hopes for it. Truth be told, I didn’t think that any of the colors would work with darker skin so I just thought I’d pass. Then, Miss Whoever You Are posted a picture on Instagram featuring the Lip Kit in True Brown. I was envious. It was the perfect shade for brown girls. Ugh, it was sold out and I wanted to slap myself for not getting it. Since then I’ve been searching for a true brown matte liquid lipstick.
About two weeks ago, I came across the perfect dark brown shade while browsing some beauty site (don’t ask me which one because I’d be lying if I told you I remember). The article said that it was from a brand called Lime Crime. I’ve heard of them, but I’ve never really paid them that much attention. Naturally, I went to their site to see what they had to offer. Most of their colors are a little out of the box for me, but that brown – I knew I had to have it. I could have ordered it online, but I hate doing that because I kind of have this fear of it not looking as I thought it would and then I’d be stuck with shipping fees, returns – and I’m not about that life.
Now you know I am a Sephora junkie. Most times I judge whether or not a product is worth sitting on my dresser by whether or not Sephora has picked it up. I’ve since started to realize that not every great product is picked up by Sephora. Case in point – have you guys been visiting Urban Outfitters lately? It seems like they’ve secretly been building their beauty selection without making a big deal about it. I just so happened to be browsing their color section when I came across the Lime Crime display. I tried on the color Salem and nearly did a happy dance. When I tried it on I was like – Kylie who?
Okay, so now let’s talk about the formula. I can’t really say anything about the Kylie Lip Kit because I don’t own it, but with any matte liquid lipstick you are going to have to exfoliate and moisturize for like an hour before applying. My favorites? Click here to see what I use to prep my lips before applying any matte liquid lipstick. As far as how long it lasts – this lasts ALL DAY. I’m not even exaggerating about this. I reapplied only because I wanted to, not because I needed to. I had coffee, lunch, more coffee and dinner and the color was still there, no lie. It might have something to do with the way that I prep my lips, but this color is not budging. The price tag – $20. Not bad – not bad at all. Today was a pretty busy day at work, so I apologize for not smiling :-).
