About Face: Face Flawless Skin Clinic Part 1

Okay ladies, I’m super excited to share this post with you today.  There’s so much to talk about I have to do this post in two parts.  This past weekend I was able to attend the Face Flawless Skin Clinic here in NYC. This event was hosted by skincare/lifestyle bloggers Felicia Walker-Benson of This That BeautyDanielle Gray of The Style & Beauty Doctor, , and Christene Carr also from This That Beauty and Christene CarrToday, I want to talk about this event!

This is the beauty event that I’ve been waiting for…for like…FOREVER! There were so many great tips on how to achieve healthy skin and you were able to ask questions in an intimate setting. There were discussions on how to achieve healthy skin by having a good skin regimen that included cleansing, hydrating, moisturizing and exfoliating. What I especially loved about this event is that it was especially geared towards women of color. That was a major draw for me. The panel included skincare and makeup professionals to answer all of the questions often raised by women of color that are not answered directly. Seeing these women who have made careers within the beauty industry made it very easy to ask questions about our skincare woes without feeling the need to phrase the question a certain way or take the advice with a grain of salt. We got the chance to better understand our skin, what it needs, what it has and what we can do to enhance our skin. That’s what I’m talking about. In a social climate where the “beat face” is becoming the norm, this Skin Care Clinic gave us tips on how to achieve that flawless look using little to no makeup at all. By flawless, I mean when you feel radiant and just genuinely pleased with the person you see in the mirror. If you’re anything like me (or like most NYC gals who are routinely late for just about everything), these tips actually save time and you time especially when you learn what products to use based on your skin type and age. It’s all about getting that healthy glow.

We learned how to use makeup to enhance – not mask your skin from celebrity makeup artist Danessa Myricks, esthetician Rachelle Richardson, of Lespri Spa Services were in attendance to answer many of our skincare and cosmetic questions like where to place bronzer on our skin, how to color correct to achieve a radiant look using very little makeup to shaving our faces in-between waxing/laser treatments. (You see, it was that intimate and you felt completely comfortable asking those questions in front of a total strangers). BTW per Rachelle, if you do shave your face you should use a single blade razor so that you’re less likely to have ingrown hairs. (Who knew?)

Guerlain, was also in attendance to showcase and demonstrate their bronzing powders. I really enjoyed my time at that station because I’ve always been a little weary about bronzing deeper skin, when applied to the correct areas of the face (like right above the cheekbones) it really adds such dimension and boosts that radiance that you achieved because you used the correct skin care to correct your skin tone.

My next favorite station was the Olay station. I’ll be honest with you, if I hadn’t attended this Skin Care Clinic, I would have never known how cutting edge Olay is when it comes to skin care. I think I’ve always associated it with a generic skin care line although, I have used and sometimes still use their Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream. After this event I will definitely be on the lookout for their products.

Another tried and true brand in attendance was RoC Skincare. They’ve been around for ages. Used by my mother and grandmother who were both obsessed with retinol – well really my mother who thought she found the fountain of youth (and she may have). It was great to see them there and yes, I wanted just about every product that was on the table.

In the end, you know what I really enjoyed about this event? Seeing some other really prominent bloggers of color supporting this event. With all their busy schedules, they still found the time to come out and support this event. As a newer blogger, it was also a community building event where you learned a lot about a topic that you are interested in. What was learned at this event could be shared with your readers and you’re part of building a platform that addresses the needs of women of color as it relates to beauty and skin care. That’s pretty awesome no matter how small of a role you are in spreading the word. Oh, and I won a prize!

Tomorrow, I will be sharing the products we received in our gift bag and my personal favorites. Until tomorrow…#staybeautiful #faceflawlessskin
