A few weeks back Cover FX introduced new shades to their Golden foundation line. To sum up how I felt, I posted this tweet:
It took me a couple of weeks, but I was finally able to get my hands on all three formulas because a girl needs options. Prior to this shade extension and thanks to Cover FX Custom Cover Drops I was able to achieve a shade close to the G90 shade by mixing 1-2 drops with my foundation of choice which was either Becca’s Ultimate Complexion Creme in Sienna or Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation in Deep 71. With this new shade extension with golden undertones I no longer have to do that. Now this is not to say that I will be getting rid of either of the two aforementioned foundations, I just now have more to my collection.
Earlier this week, I happened to be in Brooklyn running an errand (I know – SHOCKER) and stopped at the one and only Sephora location in Brooklyn that carried the extended golden shades. Naturally I picked up all three formulas – cream, liquid, and powder. Here’s what they look like. Please excuse the creme one – I was a little excited and used it before I got a chance to photograph it.
Of the three formulas the only formula that I had to go up a shade in was the liquid foundation. I’m guessing because it’s a lighter consistency than my other liquid foundations making a little sheer and I needed a little more pigment for full coverage without using a ton of product. Here’s how I would rank the three formulas.
Pressed Mineral Foundation – $36
- Natural Finish
- Buildable from sheer to full
- Does not look cakey
- Works well with Cover FX Primers
- If a concealer is still needed, I used a serum concealer and blended with a flat foundation brush like the SEPHORA COLLECTION
Total Cover Cream Foundation -$42
- Hydrating
- Satin finish
- Works well with Cover FX Primers
- Should be set with Cover FX Matte Setting Powder if you have oily to combination skin (of course, this is just my preference)
- If you still need a concealer, I would go with a serum concealer and stipple on trouble spots
Natural Finish Oil-Free Foundation – $40
- I had to go up a shade so I took the G100. This may not be the case for you.
- Luminous finish
- Since I have oily/combination skin, I used Cover FX Mattifying Primer before applying
- I would use this foundation when going out, so the Cover FX Illuminating Setting Powder really gives you that nighttime glow
In my book, all three formulas are winning. If you want to see my applications, just follow me on Instagram @seetouchtaste. They’ll just be randomly popping up there with a Cover FX hashtag.
Well until next time…SEE. TOUCH. TASTE.
