Weekly Roundup

Hey gals it’s that time of the week again. I’ve spent the last two weeks compiling a post that I hope peaks your interest. First though, can we talk about how quickly the weather has changed? I mean if you live in the NYC metro area it’s like it went from Summer to Winter in three days. Okay, now without further ado let’s get right into it shall we?

In Fashion

Did you know that H&M has a sister brand? It’s new, it’s fresh and it’s a place that every girl can shop. The name of the brand is & Other Stories.  Unlike H&M they carrier better quality of clothing (no shade on H&M) and the price point is on par with Topshop and Mango. When I first came across the NYC location at 575 Broadway, I was quite pleased. Like H&M, they carry a wide range of fashion items: clothing, shoes, accessories, and of course designer collaborations. I love the aesthetic – it’s minimalist and architectural. Here are a few items that would be a great addition to your winter wardrobe (I know it’s Fall, but it sure doesn’t feel like it). If you’re ever in the Soho area, you should take stop in.

In Beauty

I think I have found the greatest multi-use oil ever. I’ve been doing some research on oils and while I like Argan oil because it can be used on your body and your hair, it tends to be a little expensive. Over the past year, I have fallen in love with Caudalie’s Divine Oil. Now it’s pretty expensive as well, but I found out that what makes this oil special is the main ingredient – Grapeseed Oil. Here are some of the benefits of Grapeseed Oil as it relates to skin and hair:

1. Treat Acne

Grapeseed oil contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties, both of which are great for stopping acne. The oil also contains linoleic acid, which is great for promoting skin health.

2. Tighten Skin

Grapeseed oil has astringent qualities that help tighten skin and close up the pores, thus helping you avoid clogging that leads to pimples. Oily skin can especially benefit from this.

3. Relieve Dark Circles under Eyes

Dark circles are a problem for many adults, and sometimes children have the issue as well. Most products that claim to help actually have harsh chemicals. Grapeseed oil, applied daily for a few weeks, can relieve the dark circles naturally.

4. Moisturize

This very light oil can be used by those with even sensitive skin, and works as an excellent moisturizer that won’t clog pores. The oil can also help hasten healing of problems, such as minor abrasions or pimples.

5. Fight Aging

Fine lines and wrinkles can be alleviated with a daily dose of grapeseed oil on the skin. The elasticity of the skin can be improved, thus making the lines of an aging face less pronounced.

The best part – IT’S INEXPENSIVE! You can find it at your local grocery store or you can order it online for a few bucks. Click here to order yours today. If you’re a fan of grapeseed oil, leave a comment below to let me know your experience.

In Movies

Last week, I caught up with a close friend and we went to see The Judge, starring Robert Duvall and Robert Downey Jr. I’ve wanted to see the movie since seeing the previews. Once again, it is a story about the bonds of family. It should come as no surprise that I like movies like this. The story centers around a small-town judge played by Robert Duvall, who may or may not have hit a newly released felon that he had once sentenced to prison for a heinous murder. Eventually, Robert Duvall’s character is represented by his highly successful, yet estranged second son played by Robert Downey Jr. The two are in many ways mirror images of each other. There is tension of course because both smart and stubborn. I would not say that in the end the two are able to come together and become this great happy family, but there is a measure of peace that the two find and that sometimes is enough in the end.

In Music

So I was browsing iTunes looking for some new music to download and I came across Macy Gray’s new album The Way. The first thing that came out of my mouth was “Where the hell has she been?” Long ago – okay maybe not that long ago, I would play her On How Life Is and The ID albums back to back. Her raw and unique sound was fresh and new and the lyrics were sometimes funny and I liked that. This new album is a little different. Still staying true to her raw sound, this album is a little tougher and the lyrics to her songs are deeper. Of course, there are still some tracks that have that fun, poppy vibe which makes it a good album to listen to from beginning to end (especially when doing some housework or taking my morning jog). My favorite tracks on this album are the title track The Way and Hands – click here to be linked to the entire album.

In Food

You know I alway save the best for last. This week, my expecting sister has been on a roll, so I haven’t had to actually cook this week. We decided to tweak a Martha Stewart recipe and she came up with this Grilled Salmon with Mango Salsa recipe that was fantastic. We added a side of kale to that. It was quick and easy, the entire meal made in about 30 minutes. Can we also chat about the presentation? Yeah! Want the recipe? Ask in the comment section and I will send you a link. Bon Apetito!
