What Will You Put in Your Box?

This weekend, I made my second visit to the Birchbox store in Soho.  The first time, I don’t think I was able to truly appreciate the experience, but this time I was able to really take it all in.  In a lot of ways, the Birchbox store is a mix of Blue Mercury and Sephora. Located at 433 West Broadway, the layout is bright and cheerful and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful.

photo 1I had the pleasure of having a beauty talk session with two of the staff. It was really great to get their insight on several beauty brands that were new to the store and also to impart some beauty knowledge I had with them. All in all it was a great conversation. Here’s a snap of these beauty gals – sorry I didn’t get their names.

Now everyone knows that Birchbox is known for their monthly beauty subscription to sample new beauty products and cult favorites for $10/month.  I love a surprise, but sometimes a girl wants to know what she’s getting.  I think Birchbox realized that and decided that they would bring the sampling program to the actual store. What’s even better is that you can come and pick up new or additional samples as often as you like.  I should also mention that they make great gifts and for each new Birchbox member 100 points will be added to your account and you can use them towards purchases on the Birchbox website. For $15 you can come into the store pick up 5 samples (varying from deluxe to full-size) in the following categories:

  • Body
  • Skincare
  • Makeup
  • Haircare
  • Fragrance

You can pick your box color, so naturally I chose the bright pink box.  The sales associate, Tasia was my box builder.

Here are the five samples that I chose:

Of all the samples that I chose, the one that I will most likely purchase at full-size is the MCMC Phoenix EDP. I think the reason for this is because one of the things that I miss about working in the beauty industry is working on fragrance.  I especially love this fragrance because of the notes.  It reminds me a little of one of my other favorite fragrances, Midnight Fleur by NEST but has a slightly more powdery scent. The top notes are peach and cherry blossom way to sturdy Tunisian neroli and a light, powdery vanilla.

I have yet to try the other products, but when I do I’ll post a review.

Happy Monday!
