Sound Bites

Well ladies, it’s been a while. Well I’ve been busy, but I haven’t forgotten about you. I’ve actually been rather busy with work (yes, I have an actual job). There have been so many things that I want to share with you. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of music while trying to getting used to my new apartment (I've been here for almost five months, but I'm just not there yet - it's in New Jersey).  Currently I'm obsessed with Banks - specifically Warm Water. Who is Banks, you ask? What have you guys been doing with your life.  Let's just say she's EVERYTHING right now. Lyrically, she's a little Erykah Badu if you ask me with a little The Weeknd, so naturally, I love her.  It's the perfect summer crush song... As per usual, I have also been visiting some pretty cool places to eat. Last week my road dog and I had the pleasure of visiting Distilled in Tribeca.  I’m not going to lie, I’m kind of a sucker for anyplace that serves moonshine.  Yes – moonshine. I did, in fact have a meal there as well.  While most restaurants always start you off with a warm basket of bread, this place served their special popcorn.  And by special, I mean very special.  It was topped with brewers yeast, cumin, garlic, and olive oil.  OMG! It was so good, and we may or may not have had four bowls. Okay, we had four bowls. But it was on the house – and it was kind of addicting.   After about two bowls of this deliciousness, I ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts. I love  brussel sprouts. There’s just something about those tiny little cabbages that make it so hard for me to resist. But this brussel sprout dish was unlike any brussel sprout dish I have created or tasted. Excuse me while I take a moment. *pause* Okay, so these brussel sprouts were roasted and topped with red onion, candied peanuts AND bacon! Excuse me while I take another moment. *pause* To top that off a fish sauce vinaigrette was drizzled over it. The sweetness of the peanuts, the crispiness of the brussel sprouts, the saltiness of the bacon and the acidity of the vinaigrette worked so well, it nearly brought tears to my eyes. I’m not joking.   For my next dish, I ordered the St. Louis Cut Ribs. It was still relatively early in the evening, so I ordered the half rack.  It was smothered in a whole grain mustard glaze and topped with cilantro and jalepeno. First, it melted in your mouth – cooked to perfection. The jalepeno paired with the mustard glaze kicked it up a notch and the cilantro balanced the entire dish with a burst of freshness.   To complete my meal, I chose one of their signature cocktails Sparkle & Shine. It was one of their moonshine cocktails so naturally I had to try.  Now check this out – it contained cherry moonshine, vanilla bean, rhubarb shrub, and champagne. Yeah,so I’d like to show you a picture of it, but I kind of downed the entire thing within minutes because it was so good. For the record, sip it – it’s a sneaky little drink I tell you. If you’re ever in the Tribeca area you should definitely stop by.
